Hiking & Mountain Climbing

Overview

Climbing Mount Kenya offers an unforgettable adventure through diverse landscapes and breathtaking scenery. As the second highest peak in Africa after Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya rises to 5,199 meters and provides a more rugged and less commercialized climbing experience.

The mountain is known for its striking peak; Batian, Nelion, and Lenana—with Point Lenana being the most accessible to trekkers, while the other two require technical climbing. The routes to the summit pass through lush forests, bamboo zones, alpine meadows, and rocky high-altitude terrain, showcasing a remarkable range of flora and fauna.

Climbers often encounter unique wildlife such as hyraxes, sunbirds, and various species of monkeys. The ascent typically takes three to five days depending on the chosen route, with popular options including the Sirimon, Chogoria, and Naro Moru routes. Each path offers distinct scenery, from glacial valleys to tarns and rugged cliffs. The best times to climb are during the dry seasons from January to March and July to October when the weather is more stable. Mount Kenya’s mix of physical challenge, natural beauty, and cultural significance makes it one of Africa’s most rewarding mountain climbs.
